August 2009 - Illgill Head and Wastwater, South Western Cumbrian Fells, Cumbria, England.

This classic view looks down the steep west ridge of Lingmell to Illgill Head and Wastwater. Lingmell, an outlier of England's highest mountain, Scafell Pike, is a much underrated hill in its own right and holds a commanding position on the south side of Wasdale. From the spot from which this photograph was taken, the view stretches west to Illgill Head, the Screes and Wastwater, north west to Middle Fell and the terrier, Yewbarrow, and on north, past beautiful, desolate Mosedale, to the high peaks of Red Pike, Scoat Fell, Pillar, Kirk Fell and iconic Great Gable, at Wasdale's head. A truly magical setting.
